Ramz makes his return and outlines his intent on ‘Lightwork Freestyle’. The Mitcham, South London born artist switches up his flow and hops on to a drill beat - different than what we are used to, however refreshing nonetheless.
With the nature of the beat, it allows him to elongate his bars meaning he can open up and honestly narrate his frustrations – those voiced are about his mental health struggles and the perception from the industry. There’s no chance of him letting up on this beat, once he gets going. It’s raw and you can hear a focus with his delivery, particularly the enunciation of his lyrics. Whilst the lyrics aren’t as pointed or directed as we’ve come to expect with the ever-evolving drill sound, they are still there and open for someone to bite on.
“I’m underrated and the most hated” are the bars that rang home, it voices the insecurities and how he takes on the weight of the industry’s pressure. Maybe this is why we have got a new sound on this latest take?
