There’s something slightly uncomfortable about footballers doing the government’s job… and also doing it better.
Students at Whitings Hill school in Barnet, North London, were surprised on Tuesday when they were given a free school lunch, courtesy of the Arsenal legend.
Certain kids in the UK are entitled to free school meals - depending on their family’s financial situation - but not during half-term.
Man United striker Marcus Rashford has tried to get the government’s to provide free school meals to disadvantaged kids during school holidays. But Boris Johnson’s team are having none of it, and have said no.
Ozil has shown his support by supplying children at the school with a free meal organised by the German midfielder.
Around 70 children at the school will receive free lunches for the rest of the week.
Headteacher Sejal Patel said: “The school wanted to say thank you for his kindness and generosity.”
