In honour of his legacy, Marvel Studios have confirmed Chadwick Boseman’s character in Black Panther will not be recast with another actor in the blockbuster sequel.

Boseman played the iconic lead character T’Challa, King of Wakanda, in the 2018 film before passing away in August of this year following a battle with colon cancer, at age 43.

Marvel’s Victoria Alonso said: “There’s only one Chadwick and he’s not with us. Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how to return to the story and what we do to honour his chapter”.

The studio also stated Ryan Coogler will be returning to write and direct the high-anticipated film.

The follow-up Black Panther 2 is set for release in July 2022.
