Couples could walk down the aisle in Selfridges for more than luxury goods now that the department store have acquired a licence to host weddings.
Amid the ease of lockdown restrictions there has been a record demand for wedding venues and the London Oxford Street store is offering three packages for coming seeking a “non-traditional ceremony in a venue like no other”. Selfridges will be able to host ceremonies for a limited time this year, starting in summer.
More than 260,000 weddings have been postponed due to the pandemic, according to reports, which is just over 93% of the weddings that usually occur annually in the UK. As a result, couples are exploring their venue options more than ever before, with out of the ordinary venues becoming a hot pick.
Selfridges now has a bespoke ‘Wedding Suite’ on the fourth floor where guests can be wed in one of three packages witnessed by between 4 and 20 guests. From an intimate package in the store’s in-house cinema, to a ceremony officiate by comedian and drag queen Jonny Woo, couples can expect a wedding they won’t forget.
“For those looking for a truly unique way to get married this summer, we’re excited to launch weddings at Selfridges”, said Rebecca Warburton, Selfridges’ director of events and customer experiences.
“Bringing together some of our amazing experiences, we can’t wait to create custom packages in celebration of people’s love for each other.”
