After releasing a new track last week called ‘Interlude’, J Cole shares with fans a new documentary ‘Applying Pressure: The Off-Season Documentary’. This 12-minute film dives into behind the scenes of his upcoming album ‘The Off-Season’, which is set to be released on 14th May.

The Scott Lazer-directed film opens with the North Carolina rapper talking to 21 Savage, his ‘A Lot’ collaborator about how he coined the title for ‘The Off-Season’, a reference to his 2009 mixtape ‘The Warm Up’. As the film continues, we see J Cole speak about adjusting to becoming a father whilst still trying to be a better rapper as pushes himself to reach the next stage of his career. "I had to make a real decision," he says, "are you okay getting comfortable chilling, mailing it in, waiting around on inspiration... When I thought about that feeling, I thought "nah, I'm not cool with that.'"

Throughout the film, J Cole hints that ‘The Off-Season’ may be amongst his last releases, as he teased ‘The Off-Season’ and two other projects ‘It’s A Boy’ and ‘The Fall-Off’ last December which lead fans to speculate about his retirement. As fans look forward to the release of the 36-year-old’s sixth studio album, it will be nothing short of the clever wordplay and meaningful lyricism J Cole is known for.
