Brits planning a holiday to Portugal could face disappointment, with the country on the verge of being cut from the government’s green list.

It comes as scientists from the Joint Biosecurity Centre are concerned about the rising Covid cases in Portugal.

The country reported its highest number of infections yesterday but claims a low number of cases per 100,000 residents over the last 14 days. This is a key factor is determining the classification of countries under the traffic light system.

Boris Johnson warned last night that the government “will not hesitate” to move countries off the green list.

According to data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, Portugal’s comparative rate currently stands at 55.60.

The lists are expected to be updated later today.
