‘Messed Up’ is the newest drop from Shawn Emanuel

Singer-songwriter and performer Shawn Emanuel is staying in his own lane and offering up a mix of irresistible and soulful R&B and hip-hop. His new track ‘Messed Up’ showcases both his lyrical and melodic talents to the best of their ability. Drawing his inspiration from a variety of artists, Shawn makes it known that experimentation is at the forefront of his music, as well as the intent of making something that means something to both him and his fans. He reveals, “I listen to so many different genres, my Spotify playlist would confuse you. It will jump from Jay Z to Bjork or Coldplay to Billie Holiday. I’ve never just liked one thing. I have two categories for music... Stuff I like and stuff I don’t.”

Letting us in on his creative process, Shawn further notes, “‘Messed Up’ is based on a moment of realisation, when you've been pushed to the edge, you've had enough and you decide to put yourself first. I remember humming the melody on the way home from work and killed myself to quickly get home and lay it down. Then I had to work out how to get live horns and guitar on the track... I had a lot of fun creating this record, I hope people enjoy it as much as I do.”

Having toured with international heavy-hitters like Beyoncé, Kanye West, Solange and Missy Elliott early in his career, Shawn is now stepping into the limelight as a solo artist and making all the right moves.
