Author: Mark Haddon | Thursday 25th April 2024

Today marks a monumental occasion as adidas SPZL unveils the DECADE - 10 Years of adidas SPZL Exhibition, set to captivate enthusiasts in Darwen, Lancashire from May 17th to May 26th at 14 Market Street, BB3 1AZ.

Prepare to immerse yourself in a journey through time as the exhibition features the complete adidas SPZL footwear archive alongside highlights from a decade of apparel collections. This retrospective showcase promises to unveil vintage design references, unseen samples, technical drawings, signed footwear, and an array of rare adidas SPZL artifacts, offering a unique glimpse into the brand's rich history.

Adding to the celebration, exclusive headline performances await attendees, with Shaun Ryder's Black Grape taking the stage on May 17th, followed by a DJ set from Mani of The Stone Roses fame. Stereo MC’s will continue the festivities on May 18th at the neighboring venue, Level 1.

The event goes beyond mere display, offering educational opportunities for local students courtesy of Blunt Shank, a bespoke Shoemaker, designer, and restorer, in collaboration with local artist Jamie Holman.

Film enthusiasts will delight in an intimate screening of past adidas Spezial films on May 22nd, followed by a Q&A session with the curator, Gary Aspden, and SPZL film director Nick Griffiths.

A highlight of the exhibition will be the exclusive release of the Blackburn SPZL (DECADE pack) X Nightsafe edition shoe on May 24th, with proceeds going towards Nightsafe, a local charity supporting homeless youth in Blackburn, Darwen, and surrounding areas.

Attendees can also look forward to the launch of the educational, retrospective adidas SPZL DECADE book, featuring the full footwear archive alongside product descriptions, photography, and quotes from SPZL's esteemed friends and family.

As the exhibition coincides with the Darwen Live music festival from May 25th to 26th, visitors can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and eclectic sounds across various stages throughout Darwen.

Admission to the exhibition is free, with donations encouraged for Nightsafe. Stay tuned for further announcements by signing up at
